QGIS Client Software

There are several Open Source GIS Client Software witch can be used. We recommand the use of:

The software allows to import must raster map formats and vector shape formats. The client can connect to a database, as for example PostGIS . Several layers can be viewed , edited and exported into some image format.

tip Both GIS software are provided with libraries witch can be used to make GIS manupalitions on shape file format. We discusse this further in the topics on shape formats.

Installation of QGIS

To install the Quantum GIS on a Linux operating system, we get the packages: 
   # apt-get install qgis qgis-common qgis-plugin-grass
